Italian (blow) Job

June 18th, 2006 Posted in Sports and Hobbies

Italy is considered one of the superpowers of football having been a World Cup Champion for three times. But last night, despite having football stars in their squad like Totti, Zambrotta and Del Piero, Italy played one of the lousiest match that I have ever seen. Last night’s match between USA and Italy ended in a draw 1-1.

Italy played like they were an under-19 team. Their forward thinks he’s playing basketball, he always play offisde. The Italian defense was so genorous to give away a score to the US by sending the ball straight to their own goal. In that match, the US squad was the more aggresive and was able to deliver more attempts at goal while Italy finds itself unable to penetrate the US defense. Worst of all, the Italians were playing against a team composed only of 9 men.

The match was not an upset, the match was a lousy Italian blow job. Cazzo!

That game similarly astounded me Sam and Italy being soft on the U.S. Team is just as scandalous as the bribery case some of the Italian players are now facing. But mind you, U.S. is ranked 5th currently by FIFA although as I have observed them play, even a team from Thailand or Malaysia could beat them handily. I hope I am mistaken.

  5. Sam Says:

@Jane: Yup the whole World is crazy about World Cup except maybe the Philippines :(

@ Den and Ayeza: Thank you very much.

@ Major Tom: I’m just wondering how the world ranking is made. While US is ranked 5, the Football Superpowers like France is ranked 8, Argentina 9, England 10, Italy 13 and Germany 19. A bit surprising and confusing indeed. But perhaps there is something about the ranking being called FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. Just wondering what Coca-Cola is there for.

I know what you’re insinuating, Maybe with USA deep into competition, FIFA can make more money with the staging of the World Cup. Para sa aku, this really cheapens it all. The beautiful game does not need this, it can sell itself well without some gimmickry.
