P’ mo, MOSSIMO!
Mossimo is a mid-range American apparel company, founded in 1986. Mossimo specializes in youth, teenage, and adult male clothing. It draws from street, urban and sport styles.
Its local outlet in the Philippines had produced and released into market a T-shirt printed with a defaced insignia of the Order of DeMolay. Active and Senior Members of the Order of DeMolay in the Philippines are now up in arms against Mossimo!
The DeMolay seal is a property of the Order of DeMolay. It is worn with pride and honor by millions of DeMolay members all over the world. Like the Masonic Square and Compasses its usage is bounded by rules and confined exclusively within Fraternal domain. Our emblems are strictly not under public domain - “like the cross” or, the swastika!.
The DeMolay insignia was designed by the founder of our great Order, “DAD” Frank S. Land. He designed it as a pin and symbol that recognizes us as DeMolays. This emblem is to be worn only by DeMolays and their representatives. Every part of this insignia has a particular significance, and we as DeMolays know them by heart.
As DeMolays we are reminded, “… to wear this insignia proudly, whether it be on a pin or a crest. Don’t wear it any place where you would be ashamed to take your mother or your sister. Remember, in all humility, when you wear this emblem, you are representing and speaking for over three million other DeMolays scattered throughout the world, who cannot, for the moment, speak for themselves.”
Whatever reason Mossimo has, it cannot justify the use of the DeMolay emblem for any purpose, much so deface an emblem revered by millions throughout the world.
From where I come from, wearing an insignia of a fraternity which you don’t belong is dangerous to your health…defacing that insignia, is a fatal mistake and a sure prescription for disaster!
What Mossimo did is an insult to the Order of DeMolay in particular and the Masonic family in general.

if only people were more conscious about the things printed on the clothes they wear eh, things like this wouldn’t happen. say for example, a lot of people wear che guevarra and bob marley shirt without having any idea what they stand for. nagiging pang-porma lang lahat! dapat mahiya ang mossimo!

bro, this is sis jay. i just found out about this from the friendster bulletin boards and i am really shocked. the nerve of mossimo to use your emblem AND defacing it. they should be ashamed. they don’t know what they’re messing with.. or , it’s a black propaganda. if you google it bro there are a lot of responses.

nakalagay sa statutes ang proper use of the name,insignia and any regalia belonging or describing the Order or the Supreme Council so tlgng dapat mging accountable ang mossimo sa gnwa nila. biruin mo, pti ung letter “R” s ilalaim ng emblem eh gayang gaya nila. are there any legal actions that have been made to make them aware of what they have done and make the necessary responsible correction they should do to at least appease our enraged brethren (including me!)

Brethren ang puwede nating gawin as protest ay i-boycott ang Mossimo. Hikayatin natin lahat ng Chapter members natin, Senior Brethren, Dad Masons, Moms, Sister Rainbows and Jobbies, Family members and friends…LET’S NOT BUY MOSSIMO PRODUCTS!!!
Pinugutan nila ng helmet ang Seal natin, symbolically ito ang pinugot nila:
“The HELMET is emblematic of chivalry which we as DeMolays display through our Courtesy and respect for womanhood and without which there can be no fineness of character.”

Dapat may direct action tayo…of course hindi beyond sa bound of laws…direct action like:
1) Boycott Mossimo
2) Lets Print a Tshirt ourselves, with the SLOGAN: MOSSIMO SUCKS!! or P’Mo! MOSSIMO!! hehehe(sample lang yan, mga tol…)or anything. Try to be creative.
3) Lets troop to MOSSIMO stores …whatever you want to do there is up to you
4) Schedule a MOSSIMO Bashing day, in the campus….wherever…

I took a step further and sent email to Mossimo last Thursday, Jan 24, 2008 through the contact form on their website (the australian one as their main .com site has nothing on it but their logo). I briefly told them about the bastardization of the DeMolay logo on shirts for sale here in the Philippines.
I got an autoreply saying:
“Thanks for submitting feedback to Mossimo!
PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE!
This message is just an automated response to let you know that we
have received your feedback, and a real human being will respond
to it soon.”
… and nothing else since then.
Another way to strike back would be to mailbomb them … *hint* …

I believe it would be in the best interest of the Order to file a legal suit against Mossimo for copyright infringement. Perhaps the Philippine Supreme Council can also inform the International Council about this “crime” against DeMolay.
With so many legal eagles among us, I believe we should make Mossimo pay for this, figuratively and literally.

hey brothers,
i find this design and article of clothing an outrage and a severe insult and the author is true to his words saying to disrepect a fraternity emblem such as this puts the wearer’s life in grave danger. with that said do not let me catch some punk wearing this and i see it, or i will carry out my obligations and give my life if need be for what 3 million brethren and have sworn to protect.

mossimo’s damage against our organization shook most of us brethrens here in olongapo, i personally dont know yet how big the damage is, but one things for certain. what mossimo did was plainly disrespectful. i am plainly disgusted with what they did, not to mention how many lives this wonderful organization have changed for the better. we demand an explanation. and it better be a good one.

Kahit hindi man ako rainbow o job’s daughter, ang asawa ko DeMolay Alumni na PMC pa. Kaya mga bro, tingnan nyo ang wikipedia entry para sa Mossimo. With my wiki account I managed to edit their wikipedia entry. Sana hindi ito matanggal ni wikipedia administrator. Tingnan nyo while its still there. Kung mawala man, eto ang screenshot na kinuha ko after I succeeded with the edit.

i, strongly condemn the act made by mossimo, Philippines for whatever reasons they might have in defacing & printing our beloved emblem on it’s T-shirt…
our beloved seal/emblem is for the exclusive use of DeMolays alone and the Masonic Family around the world… i urge the National President of the Order of DeMolay here in our country (Philippines) as to the Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay to write the Officers of Mossimo, Philippines and if necessary file the corresponding court-complaint in what they’ve done… they did not only violate the printing of our said insignia but the production of it to be worn by people (especially young men) not a member of our fraternal organization…
the leaders/officers of Mossimo, Philippines should be taught a lesson in what they did… that they should first ask/obtain the corresponding permit/approval from the corresponding order/organization of they choice in mass producing an exclusive use/property of the said organization…
i appeal to my fellow demolay… brethrens to boycott the said company and for our brethrens whom are lawyers by profession should file the corresponding lawsuit on the said company… WE as DeMolays OWE A PUBLIC APOLOGY from this company…

The Supreme Council should take action for the bastardization that mossimo made in our seal.
They beheaded our seal and they think it’s alright, but they don’t know that it’s like beheading us the members and brothers of the International Order of DeMolay. We shouldn’t let this pass, because this is a big insult for our Fraternity and our Brotherhood.
