Odd Day
No dogs barking.
No neighbors yelling.
No motorcycles roaring.
A puzzlingly hushed Sunday.
muted. subdued. quiet.
Can’t hear a thing
not even the sun shining.
No dogs barking.
No neighbors yelling.
No motorcycles roaring.
A puzzlingly hushed Sunday.
muted. subdued. quiet.
Can’t hear a thing
not even the sun shining.
Nariyan na ang banaag. Pero ayaw pa ring sumilip
ng araw sa likod ng tabing ng mga kulay-abong ulap.
Nahihiya dahil hindi siya nagpakita sa nagdaang mga araw.
The ambiance outside
my window
in the morning
after a storm
reminds me
of a place where
I’ve been to
not so long ago.
The grey background,
the drizzle,
the cold, damp and
empty streets.
Passing scenes I see
as I gaze
out the window of a
train in Amsterdam
eight o’ clock in
the morning
without the sun.

Lumalagapak ang malakas
na patak ng ulan
sa bulok na yerong
bubongan.
Hindi aso’t pusa, kundi
mga kalabaw at kambing
ang bumabagsak
mula sa madilim
na kalangitan.

In an unpredictable weather, you have to wear a raincoat
and a pair of sunglasses at the same time.
You don’t know when it will rain
or when the sun blinds you with its glare.
This makes you the perfect description
of a suspicious looking person.

Below
us is
a sequin, a
spangle map laid out
neatly like a wedding gown
on
top of
a bed waiting
to be photographed. Tiny
diamonds, jade, pearls, and emeralds
stitched
in patterns
of ordered chaos
with scattered intervals of
glimmer and darkness. As our
plane
slowly descends
and find its
way into a dark
and lonely airport at night.
